The parish’s economic base is composed of health care services, shipbuilding, construction, manufacturing, agriculture, and oil field services. The Jennings American Legion Hospital and Gulf Island Industries, LLC provide the greatest employment opportunities for citizens of the area, with shipbuilding, manufacturing, construction, and oil field services following.

Oilfield Services

Several companies are involved in the oil industry: The three largest are Holston, Inc., with 100 employees; the Manifold Valve Company has 45 workers building oilfield equipment; and Gauthier Brothers/Tuboscope in Lake Arthur with 75 employees. NOV Fluid Control in Lake Arthur combines Brandt solids control and waste management with fluids and services.

Marine Services

Gulf Island Operations, has 450 employees. Gulf Island Operations is a leading Louisiana Shipyard and Shipbuilder located near the Gulf of Mexico. Over the past century, Gulf Island Operations has built a strong reputation as a steel fabrication and USA shipyard for providing the highest quality design, construction and repair services in the maritime industry for a wide range of steel-hulled vessels.

Martin Energy Services LLC is the combination of three well established, reputable companies—Midstream Fuel Service LLC, L&L Oil and Gas Services, L.L.C., and PEPCO—and forms the industry’s premier provider of fuels, lubricants and full service logistical support along the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.  They operate 22 terminals at 16 ports across the Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast. In addition to their 24/7/365 terminal services, they offer over the water transfers utilizing their truck fleet and tug/barge deliveries to both inland and offshore locations. MES is approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the United States Coast Guard for transferring fuel, lubricants and specialty products to vessels through over the water transfers.

The Jennings American Legion Hospital is the largest private employer for the parish, with 400 employees.

Other Services

Tourist facilities, electrical utility companies, and non-hazardous waste disposal comprise some of the other businesses of Jefferson Davis Parish. 162 workers are distributed between these businesses. The Jefferson Davis Parish school system and the City of Jennings provide jobs through educational services (850 employees) and in governmental positions (145 employees).
